Orlistat works within the digestive system by blocking some of the enzymes responsible for breaking down dietary fat. This means that around one-third of the fat consumed in meals is not absorbed by the body and instead passes through in the stools.

💊 HOW TO TAKE
The usual adult dose of Orlistat 120mg is one capsule with each main meal containing fat, up to three times daily.
Take the capsule:
Immediately before, during, or up to 1 hour after the meal.
If you skip a meal or the meal contains no fat, the dose should be skipped. Do not take a double dose to make up for a missed capsule.
🥗 IMPORTANT DIET INFORMATION
Orlistat should be used alongside a balanced, calorie-controlled diet. Dietary fat should ideally be spread evenly across your main meals.
Meals that are particularly high in fat can significantly increase digestive side effects.
⚠️ POSSIBLE SIDE EFFECTS
Because unabsorbed fat passes through the digestive system, common side effects can include:
- Oily or fatty stools
- Increased urgency to use the toilet
- More frequent bowel movements
- Wind, sometimes with oily spotting
- Loose stools or diarrhoea
- Abdominal discomfort
These effects are more likely after eating high-fat meals and may be reduced by following a lower-fat diet.
⚠️ IMPORTANT SAFETY INFORMATION
Orlistat 120mg is not suitable for everyone.
Do not use during pregnancy. It is also not usually recommended while breastfeeding. People with conditions including chronic malabsorption syndrome or cholestasis should not use orlistat.
Orlistat can also interact with certain medicines, including warfarin and other anticoagulants, ciclosporin, levothyroxine, amiodarone, some epilepsy medicines and some HIV medicines. Speak to a doctor or pharmacist before use if you take regular medication.
